Offline Mode
Continue canvassing even without internet connectivity.
How It Works
The SRP Canvass app is designed for field work where internet may be spotty. When you lose connectivity:
- The app automatically switches to offline mode
- You can continue viewing voters and recording results
- Changes are saved locally on your device
- When connectivity returns, changes sync automatically
Offline Indicator
When offline, you'll see a banner at the top of the screen indicating:
- "Offline" status
- Number of pending changes waiting to sync
The banner disappears automatically when you're back online and changes have synced.
What Works Offline
| Feature | Offline? |
|---|---|
| View voter list | Yes (cached data) |
| Search voters | Yes |
| Filter voters | Yes |
| View voter details | Yes |
| Record results | Yes (queued) |
| Add notes | Yes (queued) |
| View map | Partial (may not load tiles) |
| Make calls/texts | Yes (uses phone) |
| Load new voters | No |
| Sync contacts | No |
Syncing Changes
When you come back online:
- The app detects connectivity automatically
- Pending changes upload in the background
- The pending count decreases as items sync
- Once complete, the offline banner disappears
You can also manually trigger a sync by pulling down on the voter list.
Conflict Resolution
If another canvasser updated the same voter while you were offline:
- Your changes are applied on top of theirs
- The most recent result "wins" for canvass status
- Both sets of notes are preserved in history
Troubleshooting
Changes Not Syncing
If the pending count doesn't decrease:
- Check your internet connection
- Try toggling airplane mode on and off
- Force-close and reopen the app
- If issues persist, contact support
Stale Data
If you see outdated voter information:
- Pull down to refresh the list
- Wait for the sync to complete
- If still stale, go to Settings → Clear Cache
Cache Size
The app caches voter data for offline use. If your device is low on storage:
- Go to Settings → Clear Cache
- Reload only the voters you need
